Lane’s Spector NS6 Custom Bass Guitar

Here’s a look at my Spector NS-6P Custom bass guitar. Built in the late 90s during the Stuart Spector Design phase of Stuart’s career, this has been my main bass for more than 16 years.

Over the years, many people have asked why I don’t play This Bass, or That Bass, or why don’t I have a closet-full of different basses. The answer is always the same: This is my Voice. The very first time I played it, I knew this was the bass I had been waiting my entire career for. The feel of the neck, the tone, the responsiveness… everything is just the way I like it.

Back then, SSD was only building in the US facility. Today, there are two more-affordable lines – the Asian and European models. I’ve played many different instruments from all three factories, and I’m confident that, dollar for dollar, they’re among the finest basses available today.

Just about all of us start out on an inexpensive instrument. As we progress, we naturally gravitate toward better ones. I’m not suggesting that you run out and spend four or five thousand dollars on an instrument. But I do want to give you something to strive for… to dream of, as you continue your journey on bass guitar.

And when you are ready for a new bass, I strongly recommend you audition some Spectors.

Aim High – Play Low!

Lane

  • [..YouTube..] I’ve seen your bass before online (and if I’m not mistaken in the pages of “Bass Player”) and have always been a fan! I’ve asked PJ about doing a custom piezo black bridge and he told me it wasn’t possible and was only available in the saddles of their Brass bridges – how did you pull that Brass Piezo Saddle/Black Bridge special item off? (it’s not just that I prefer black hardware, but also the high-end from the Aluminum bass plate on the black bridge)

    … but absolutely KILLER bass!

  • [..YouTube..] @LaneonBass Ah, something I didn’t notice while watching the video (over in “The Spector Club” at TalkBass.com there are a number of Players who have done the “Saddle Swap” simply for visual reasons only and have turned very nice). Unfortunately I believe the dimensions of my 4 Euro Bolt-On bridges are *slightly* different that the USA bridge so I’m not sure if USA piezo-equipped saddles would fit in my black Euro bridge , but it’s worth giving PJ a call – thanks!

  • [..YouTube..] @LaneonBass Also, I’d KILL for LEDs straight from Spector as opposed to going to SIMs and voiding warrantee (again, maybe something PJ could workaround) as well as the body shape for “He Who Shall Not Be Named” (spoken to PJ, no CNC info exists) but if I could work out getting the piezo saddles if workable on my Nordstrand Big Single/Aguilar OBP-3 setup in my Euro Bolt-Ons, which as a Jazz Bass Guy I find is the perfect combo of Spector @ Jazz Bass I’d be a very happy Spectorist!

  • [..YouTube..] @scarred2112 – This system is actually powered by a single LED that is nested in the body. The lights you see on top of the neck are the ends of fiber optic cables. It’s a really sweet set-up, and I wish they still offered it. Unfortunately, the company that did this is no longer in business.
